Personalise Your Perth Wedding: Top Tips to Surprise and Delight Your Guests

Planning your wedding in Perth should inspire and excite you. You are designing a day that will bring your loved ones together to celebrate your relationship and this significant moment in your love story. It should be fun, it should be sincere, authentic and yes, sentimental and it should definitely represent you and your partner and achieve everything you hope for your day. Lean into the incorporation (or exclusion) of the elements that will make your wedding unique to you, the moments that will surprise and delight your guests, and make them think ‘I love this, this is so ‘insert your names here”.

Here are my top tips to personalise your wedding to reflect your style.

Traditions That Suit Your Style

Ditch the traditions that don’t work for you or rejig them in a way that is meaningful to you as a couple i.e bouquet toss, cake cutting, cake, mother-son or father-daughter dance. Can’t decide on a wedding cake flavour? Have two or more cakes or different flavours for different tiers. Bonbonnieres are an interesting one, yes ditch the trinkets but if you can find a way to make it meaningful then this can add to the magic of the wedding experience for your guests. For example, live illustrations of your guests glammed up for your wedding will be a welcomed sentiment. I also read about a couple who loved collecting mugs from their travels, so they set up a wall of mugs for guests to take home their favourite (it fit in perfectly with their rustic, woodsy, eclectic wedding aesthetic.)

Sentimental Wedding Ring Holder

Find a meaningful way to present your wedding rings during the ceremony. A family heirloom, a handmade box, or something related to your first date location can add a sentimental touch.

Write Personal Wedding Vows

Write your own vows. Personal, heartfelt vows add a special touch to the ceremony and let you express your love in your own words.

Wedding Venue and Aesthetic of Significance

Choose a wedding venue/location and aesthetic/style that is significant to your love story. What are your passions, interests? What recreational activities do you both enjoy? Do have a favourite movie/play you would like to draw inspiration from? Where did you first meet? Where was your first date? Where is your favourite holiday destination - even if a destination wedding is not for you, you can allude to this with your venue choice and wedding aesthetic.

Entertainment Choices

What are your interests as a couple? Consider your band, music ensemble and DJ combination as well as your song choices for those key moments, but also think beyond the music to inclusions such as live performers, progressive art and food theatre.

Incorporate your Children and Pets

Yes, they can be unpredictable but they are your family and add to the sentimentality of your wedding. The minder/carer can take them after they have had their fun.

Select Vendors That Fit Your Personality

Choose wedding vendors that are the best personality fit for you both. Connect with them. The more they understand you, your relationship, and your hopes for your day, the better equipped they will be to deliver the best experience for you and your guests.

Signature Cocktails

I love the incorporation of signature cocktails in the wedding bar menu, even if for a limited time. They can be your and your partners favourite cocktails or cocktails specifically designed to express your personality. It could also be a nod to the person picking up the bar tab or a way to remember a loved one.

Consider a Signature Scent

Could the incorporation of a signature scent amplify the ambience? But hint, keep it subtle so as not to overwhelm your guests.

Choreographed First Dance

A choreographed first dance can be a memorable way to express your personality as a couple. The lessons could be fun date nights. Don’t take it too seriously, have fun and make the most of the experience (even if you or your partner are not the best dancers). You’ll make fun memories as a couple, learn and grow and your guests will love cheering you on the night.

Incorporate Meaningful Family or Cultural Traditions

If there are family or cultural traditions that are important to you both, find a way to include them in your wedding. These elements can add depth and meaning to your special day.

By infusing your personalities, experiences, and interests into your wedding, you'll create a celebration that represents who you are as a couple, making it an unforgettable and meaningful experience for you and your guests.
